This Loose Ring Snaffle bit is generally the most popular bit used to start young horses. Like most English snaffle bits the primary action is the pull on the
bars of the mouth. The shape of the cheeks prevents the bit from
pinching the horse’s lips. The jointed mouth piece exerts a nut cracker
effect when the bit is engaged, pressuring the tongue and roof of the
mouth. With a loose-ring, a small rein aid results in
movement of the bit, so that the horse can respond to a lighter, more
invisible aid. However, with a novice rider, this means that every movement on the rein is transmitted to the horse. If you are looking for a novice rider, we suggest the Eggbutts with their
fixed cheek piece, which only transmit the "hard" wobbles to the horse's
mouth. The Loose Ring Snaffle Bit comes in 5".
