Half Chaps are seen in just about every hunter/jumper barn you enter. Half chaps extend from the ankle to just below the knee and when worn over a short paddock boot they give the protection and can give the appearance of a tall riding boot. Half chaps are more economical than full chaps and are worn over jeans or breeches. They are widely used while schooling to keep your tall boots from excessive use and therefore, replacement. Half chaps usually are made of leather, and have a zipper or hook and loop closure on the outside, but also come in suede & Velcro versions. They provide grip for the rider, and protection from sweat and stirrup leather rubs.
