An Equestrian riding helmet is worn riding & showing horses by those who compete in the hunter/jumper horse shows. English riding helmets are specially designed to protect the rider's head during falls off a horse, especially from striking a hard object while falling or being accidentally struck in the head by a horse's hoof. ASTM/SEI Certified helmets are required headgear for hunter/jumper competitors where horse and rider must jump and/or work at high speeds.
The newer-style show helmets are a sleeker, more abstract versions of the classic helmet's hunt cap look. Most show helmets are generally black or dark gray with a matte or textured finish. Many of them today also feature a central, highly visible ventilation strip (sometimes plain & sometimes self or professionally decorated) which helps to keep the rider's head cool. You might hear them called by their nickname... "skunk helmets". They have a low profile shape and use the high-tech padding & fabrics designed today to keep your head protected.
